AGA workshop in SG (@NUS utown)

I was real lucky to have been given the chance to attend a workshop by AGA, who is a locking legend.
It was really hard to (still is) separate upper body and lower body, and then after that focus on keeping up with the song, keeping in tune/in flow with the music, and also being aware of your cleanliness, your groove.
AGA also imparted a lot of really enlightening info, especially about music, about ways to train.

Notes taken from his sharing: (Roughly)
- Funk/the dance/locking on its own is more of a thing without any substance at first - It is you as a person, the associations, the people you do it with, the experiences, the meaning YOU have towards it/in relation to it that give it a purpose and meaning. And it will always change. Like a hobby, a thing to do with friends, a thing to explore for your body, whatever. Like for him, it from something fun, to something he did for his career too.
- Train your foundations
- And don't worry about how much you're learning/your growth/speed - just focus on persevering and keep going, jianchi, then when accumulated 20 years like him, there's nothing much else you can say or need to say.
- In the age now, newbies can learn a million things at one go. So we don't really have time to slowly slowly get each basic correct. We don't take things slow in getting the correct foundations first.
- 把你的身体分成两,脚和上半身在做不同的动作, learn how to separate, but also, when you finally dance with the music, you combine - combine as in you notice how the diff leg movements (e.g. charleston, sixstep) can affect the feel of the same set of arm movements.
- ***Also for music, don't focus on memorizing 不要死死背 all songs. Instead, focus on the general genre of songs, from funk, house, disco. Each genes has a certain style/"formula " to how the songs are.
