Updates on An Exploration of Symmetry

...and my horrible quiz performances...

Good new is at least one module is down, the online MOOC of Beauty, Form and Function: An Exploration of Symmetry. It finished in week 8, a relief as one module is off your shoulders and off your mind.

Now, for reviews on the online MOOC.
# Beauty, Form and Function: An Exploration of Symmetry

Take this module if you can. (readmore on details)

It only lasts 8 weeks, the assignments are manageable (some even rather easy)(if comparing to normal core tutorials), interesting and maybe sometimes annoying but it really is just giving you free AUs at the end. The difficulty may be in the Field Exercises, or the final Writing Exercise, but these are all peer marked - most people try to be as helpful as possible and give you at least one mark when out of 2.

If you really do not have time to watch all the lectures, watch at least the ones on the Tutorials, and use the notes given. (Or, you could watch at 2x speed like i did).
BUT warning, you should really watch the videos from Part III onwards, because the concepts are hard to catch on your own - the lecturer's explanations and examples help a lot.

Below is the timeline of lectures and assignment due dates:

It may seem daunting but it really is just a timetable: important part being the bottom half, with due dates of the work.

Requirements: Have a computer with a working webcam - they use it verification of your identity, and other precautions.
When signing up: PLEASE register under the Signature Track , which puts you under NTU, so that upon completion you can move the points to be your AUs. MUST DO. or else you work is wasted.

I reccomend registering with friends so you can remind each other of the due dates, (and check over you MCQ answers). Good luck.

==========

On to other news: I suck at MCQs. My Biophysics was terrible, and my Astro is probably going to be terrible. My only good news is my CS8900, Global Cinema, where I have a relatively not bad score. Still waiting for the prof to send us his comments so I may look over my work.

GAH
Gotta do more practice and less inefficient mugging.

Cheers.

    1. Hi, I realised I didn't post on that mod sorry. But anyways, briefly said: the prof is one of the nicest, more enjoyable lecturers I've encountered. Its usually a 3 hour session every week where he'll go through at least one main movie, and go through the specific links to the society the Prof chooses to cover that week.
When I took, the marks are split between 2 short reports and finals. The reports are not too hard as content covered is not too much. Its mainly your own analysis and interpretation.
One tip is - he has movies he needs you to either dl and watch your own, or go for his screenings at night. It gets tiring to watch 2 hour long movies - but at least wiki key points and re confide the main charas! It is enough for answering basicallg

    3. final is written. short structured/essay questions. he narrowed down a readinglist for us (as he gave us a lot of articles and papers during the term) so is mainly based on the content written there. Types of questions would be like, (sorry i can't really rmb alr)
"how the Asian Financial Crisis (IMF) affect the social life of ... (is it the working man?)"

  3. Hey,

Was just wondering for cs8900, is there any group work involved? What's the percentage breakdown for the assignments like and is it worth taking?
